Protecting California’s KidsIt is heartbreaking to hear about crime and violence, especially when committed against a child. Republicans support laws that are tough on criminals and make schools and neighborhoods safe for families.
Fixing a Flawed LawProposition 47 has turned out to be a virtual “Get-Out-of-Jail-Free card.” Communities up and down the state are dealing with crime spikes and an increasing number of troubled people on the streets who know they won’t be incarcerated for their crimes. We need to look at effective reforms to fix Prop. 47 and make sure local law enforcement agencies have the tools they need to keep our communities safe.
Reforming Prison RealignmentRealignment has resulted in fewer criminals being locked up in state prisons, but the expected savings in prison spending haven’t materialized. In fact, costs are rising. We need to take a hard look at how the state manages its prison facilities and make the necessary reforms.
Strengthening Community Relations with Law EnforcementA good relationship between law enforcement and the public is vital to maintaining safe neighborhoods. We support policies that reinforce effective community policing and help law enforcement keep the peace.
Protecting Californians’ Personal InformationCalifornia is a global leader on many fronts, and unfortunately cybercrime is one of them. The identities and personal information of Californians are increasingly being targeted by criminal gangs operating from locations around the globe. We need better coordination between federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to combat the cybercrime threat.
